Graphic Design Assignment #3

-Jason Robidoux
Artist Reflection: Landscape Collage

1. The strongest technical aspect of my work, in my opinion, was my ability to cut the images using the layer mask tool. The sailboat was not a transparent image so I had to cut out the background in small spaces. Also, my ability to change the color of the sailboat (originally white) to match the sunset appealed to me.
2. One aspect of my work that could've been improved on was that the foreground coloring doesn't quite match the rest of the picture. The other colors are brighter (pink, blue, and yellow), while the campsite colors are more green and aren't relating to the sunset.
3. The easiest part of this activity was choosing the images. I chose my campground, Hermit Island, for all the images (foreground, middle ground, and background).
4. The most difficult part of this project was using the layer mask to cut out the background of the sailboat image. I had to use a paint brush at size 1 and zoom in all the way in to the picture to cut out it the way I wanted to.
5. I successfully demonstrated the objective in this art activity by using multiple pictures to make a custom foreground middle ground and background.
6. If I were to do this project again, I would've looked harder to find a newer picture of a campsite. By doing this it would've made the picture look more realistic.

  1. Jason, I love your camping theme!!! You did an excellent job blending the foreground, middle ground, and background with layer masks. Making the sailboat a silhouette was a good idea. The green in the foreground doesn't bother me but the writing in the bottom right hand corner does. Try using the content aware tool to eliminate it. To rid the foreground of green try edit > adjustments > desaturate.
